Moving Along

In looking at the Study's pages @ WikiTree, I thought some of what's there belongs here more than there.  The Study @ WikiTree explains the Study, some background, tasks to be done, instructions and, most important, the list of profiles of people @ WikiTree that are in the Study.

This blog will have more of the information about the history of the town, the many communities, photographs, and occasional featured profiles of people identified in the Study.  There will be links between the two web sites and other sites with resources related to the town.

This Study at the Society of One Place Studies

The One Place Study of Rockland, New York, now has a place at the Society of One Place Studies.

The Society provides a place to access one-place studies, resources to assist in working on such a study and ideas for the same.

The primary site for the Study will remain at WikiTree and this blog will briefly record steps in the progress of the Study.  There will be a few resources here at the blog site as well as at WikiTree and there will be some overlap.

What is a One Place Study?

"A One Place Study (OPS) is a study of the genealogy and history of a specific place."  from The One Place Study Project at WikiTree.  More information about this type of Study can be found at the web site of the Society for One-Place Studies.  In effect, it's a way of firmly connecting local history and genealogy.

This blog will record my progress in conducting a Study of Rockland, New York; the town, not the county.

Many of my ancestors lived in Rockland at one time.  It's located in Sullivan County with easy access via Route 17 near the southern New York State border with Pennsylvania.

More later....
