Cemeteries in the Town of Rockland:
These cemeteries vary from substantial community cemeteries to small family cemeteries many of which were abandoned when the last of the family passed away, moved away or the land was sold, to cemeteries by various houses of worship. A few have not been located by Findagrave and at least one may still be lost in the woodlands but has been seen in the past. New York State cemetery law provides for maintenance of the old family cemeteries which is minimal and conditions vary depending on the time of year. While visiting the older cemeteries, keep in mind the surrounding environment which may include bears and/or snakes.
